A native of Franklin County, Mr. Poole was a son of Sara Lee Garrison Poole and the late Willard W. Poole. He attended Emmanuel College, Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. He was retired from American Family Life Insurance Co. and was a former leader of Cub Scout Troop 42. He was a member of Broad River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. A native of Oshkosh, Wis., Mr. Cheney attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and worked in the paper industry. He was active in the Southern Paper Trade Association and served as its president. He retired in 1985 after 20 years with Bay West Paper Co. He was a member of Charlotte Bridge Association and was a veteran of World War II who flew 50 missions as a B51 pilot in Europe. Private services will be held at a later date in Oshkosh. Maddux Athens Funeral services for Hugo LeClare Maddux, 90, of 415 Pinewood Circle, Athens, have been set for 2:30 P.M. Thursday, February 22, 2001 at Bridges Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert Bohler, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, will conduct the service. Mr. Maddux passed away Monday following a short illness. He was born in Flovilla, GA, son of Josiah Atticus and Kate Pearl Gardner Maddux. He graduated from the Lanier High School for Boys in Macon, GA and received a B.S. degree form the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1934. While at Tech he served as president of Theta Chi fraternity. Mr. Maddux served in management and ownership positions at Snow's Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Athens, Albany, Macon, Valdosta, and Columbus. He was active in Kiwanis, having served as president of Kiwanis in Valdosta and vice-president in Athens. He was a member of Athens B.P.O.E. No. 790, Athens Mount Vernon Lodge No. 22, Athens Country Club, and Central Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. He was a member of Azalea Lodge No. 716, Grand Lodge of Georgia, F. & A.M., and was an Emeritus member of the Grand Lodge of Georgia, R.A.M. Valdosta No. 107, and an Emeritus Grand Commandery, Knights Templar of Georgia, Malta No. 16. Survivors include his wife, Paula; his daughter and son-in-law Kaye and Tony Kratfel; grandchildren Kevin and Dee Hendrix of LaGrange and Kyle and Donna Hendrix of Watkinsville; three great grandchildren, twins Jessica and Hannah Hendrix of Watkinsville and Heather Hendrix of LaGrange; stepchildren: James and Madeline Aaron, Richard Aaron and Judy Carter, Lee Aaron, and Keith Aaron all of Athens and Charles and Susan Aaron of Haines City FL; and two stepgrandchildren, Vincent Carter of Athens and Michael Pappageorge of Haines City FL. Serving as pall-bearers will be: Jose Penta Hernandez, Dr. Robert McAllister, Dr. Worth McDogald, Gerneaux Malcolm, Emory Malcolm, Richard Aaron, James Aaron, and Don Hendrix.
