A native of Oconee County, Mr. Wilkes was a son of the late Clarence A. and Mary Belle Hardigree Wilkes. He was a retired farmer and an United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Watkinsville Post 9147 VFW, BPOE, and Moose Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors at Oconee State Bank and was a member of Antioch Christian Church where he was Deacon Emeritus. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. David Perkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:19 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 Lillian K. Pittard Athens Lillian Pittard's energy level had always been high and remained so even as she got older. An active member of Athens First United Methodist Church since she was eight years old, Lillian devoted much of her time and energy to church activities with the Altar Guild, United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Athens Regional Medical Center for more than 29 years. Over the years, her friends know they could depend on Lillian to lend a helping hand. The word ''no'' was not in her vocabulary. After suffering a fall in her home in 1998, Lillian had to drastically curb her involvement in all the things that were important to her. She always had a smile for everyone and was a true Southern lady. Lillian Knowles Pittard, 90, died on June 20, 2001. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Athens First United Methodist Church with interment immediately following in the Winterville Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Bernstein Funeral Home. Mrs. Pittard is survived by her daughter, Pat Cardin of Atlanta; three grandchildren: Richard Cardin Snellville, Jody Kelly of Atlanta, Michael Cardin of Athens; and six great grandchildren.
