A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Bell was a daughter of the late Tom Joe and Mittie Virginia Higginbotham Nelms, and was a widow of Ira E. Bell, Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Bell Irvin, and a son, Wilton Bell. She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Lavonia Post 5897 V.F.W., and a member of the S.C.V. Camp 935, Currahee Rangers. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the United States Hospital Corp, 3rd Marine Division. He was of the Catholic faith. Wayne Burden Bowman Mr. Harold Wayne Burden, 53, of 424 Rehoboth Road, Bowman, Ga. died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Ga. A native of Bowman, Ga., Mr. Burden was born September 18, 1947 son of Mrs. Della Smith Burden of Bowman, Ga. and the late Harold Burden. Mr. Burden was a graduate of Elbert County High School, attended Emmanuel College, and was a graduate of Athens Technical College. He was employed with BASF as a Chemical Lab Supervisor for 26 years, and was presently owner and operator of Burden Painting. Mr. Burden was a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church where he was Minister of Music and a Deacon. Survivors in addition to his mother are: wife, Ferrell Hill Burden, Bowman; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Wayne and Cindy Burden, Bowman, and Phillip Clark and Natalie Burden, North Augusta, S.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Burden, Bowman, Timothy Burden, Alaina Burden, and Merritt Burden, all of North Augusta, S.C.; niece reared in the home, Chloe Williams, Bowman; brothers, Steven Burden and Michael Burden, both of Bowman; several nieces and nephews.
