Thelma DeLinda Cheek Murphy, 97, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001. Formerly of Commerce, Mrs. Murphy was a daughter of the late John Henry and Chassie Holcomb, and was the widow of William Mazie Cheek and Truman Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Maysie Faubion, Houston, Texas; three sons, Lamar Cheek, Tarpon Springs, Fla., William Cheek, Lexington, Ky., and Larry Cheek, Farmington Hills, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A native of Blount County, Ala., Mrs. Carlyle was a daughter of the late Emory S. and Mary Pruitt Simpson, and was the widow of Thomas A. Carlyle. She was a longtime resident of Winder and was retired from Empire Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Winder First Baptist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include a daughter, Anita Maddox, Rifle, Colo.; a son, Tom Carlyle, Marysville, Wash.; three sisters, Lille B. The Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell and Rev. Earl Gilstrap will officiate. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Beck died Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mrs. Beck was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Lou Johnson Loggins. She was a retired seamstress with Carwood Manufacturing. She was a member of the Dewberry Baptist Church #2. Mrs. Beck was loved by all who knew her.
