A native of Westmont, NJ, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late William Henry and Ada Morgan and the widower of Mary Caswell Morgan. He was a graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., American University, Washington, DC, and Drew Theological Seminary. He pastored a number of United Methodist Churches in New Jersey and Wyoming Conference and had made his home in this area since his retirement in 1974. She resided at the Winterville Retirement Center in Winterville, Georgia. She was a native Alabaman, born in Etowah County, the daughter of John Mathis and Bell Turner Chappelle. Having resided in Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia, her primary home was in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was a homemaker and wife of Zack Y. Appleton who was pastor of the Acipco Baptist Church for thirty-two years. Upon his retirement in 1972 they lived in the Roebuck community in Birmingham. Dr. Appleton preceded Mrs. Appleton in death in 1988. She maintained her home in Roebuck until May 1997, when she moved to Winterville. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Virginia Appleton, Athens, Georgia; by her granddaughter, Catherine Appleton Peay, Highlands, NC; and two nephews, Tal Farrar, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Larry Petty, Trussville, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday at 11 a.m. CST. Her son, Jon Appleton, will officiate. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:24 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 James Coleman Rountree Toccoa James Coleman Rountree, 80, of Rosedale Street, Toccoa, husband of Iva Dean Allen Rountree, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 in Stephens County Hospital. Born July 22, 1920 in Emanuel County, Ga., he was a son of the late John Allen and Annie Mae Coleman Rountree and had lived in Toccoa for 10 years. Mr. Rountree had lived in Florida for 30 years and in Swainsboro, Ga. for 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa and the Jess Hayes Sunday School Class. Mr. Rountree was plant superintendent of the Hygeia-Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Pensacola, Florida. He retired in 1986 after 45 years of employment. Mr. Rountree was an Army World War II Veteran serving in the infantry. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James Edward and Sandra Jackson Rountree of Lilburn, Ga.; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Shannon Rountree and Seth Gibree of Birmingham, Alabama; one grandson, Christopher Jackson Rountree of Athens, Ga.; and 14 nieces and nephews.
