A native of Jackson County, Mr. Manus was a son of Dorothy Cordelia Edwards Stephens, Nicholson, and the late Rome Jefferson Manus, Jr. He was preceded in death by a step father, Charles Stephens. He was a house painter. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Manus. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. Survivors include three daughters, Margie Carney, Gainesville, Tammy Messer, Social Circle, and Tracey Dale Weldon, Homer; a son, Thomas Ronald Manus, Jr., Mansfield; two sisters, Martha Baker, Maysville, and Theresia Newman, Brooklet; two brothers, Lamar Manus and Rome J. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Smith was a son of the late James Newton and Callie Denton Smith. He was retired from the Toccoa Casket Company after 35 years of service. He was a member, a deacon, and a member of the building committee of Rock Quarry Holiness Church. Burial will be in Zebulon Baptist Church cemetery. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rock Quarry Holiness Church with the Rev. Edward Hood, Mr. Joe Irvin, and Mr. Charles McIntyre officiating. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Palmer Smith; three sons, Ronnie Smith, Gary Smith and Tony Smith, all of Toccoa; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was a former employee of Wright Manufacturing Company and member of Zebulon Baptist Church. A native of Forest, Mississippi, Mrs. Madden was the daughter of the late Eric Sandle and Merle Sims Palmer. She attended Judson College and graduated from the University of Mississippi. Athens has been her home since 1951. She was a member of the original faculty at Whitehead Road School and a charter teacher at Athens Academy. She was an active member of St. Mary's Auxiliary, having served the information desk for the past 15 years. Mrs. Madden was a charter member of Beech Haven Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Willis Greer Madden, Athens; daughter, Greer Madden, Dallas, TX; son, Michael P. Madden, Charlotte, NC; brother, Charles W. Palmer, Forest, MS; and grandchildren, Kelley Madden, Kourtney Madden, Kory Madden, Kyle Madden, and Kristopher Madden, all of Charlotte, NC. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Stewart Simms, Jr., and the Father Ralph Marsh officiating.
