He worked for Ford Motor Company for many years and also worked as a self employed mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended Canon Baptist Church. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:21 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2001 'Duke' Steinemann Sr. Bishop Col. F. Cable ''Duke'' Steinemann Sr., 83, of 4931 Price Mill Road died Thursday, March 29, 2001. A native of Sandusky, Ohio, Mr. Steinemann was a son of the late George and Florence Cable Steinemann. He attended Ohio State University, School of Commerce and Business Administration, and graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelors degree in foreign service. He was retired as Colonel after 27 years of service in the Air Force. During his military career, he was a B17 and B29 combat pilot, instructor at the Air University, and Director of Operation and Commander in the Strategic Air Command and the Military Airlift Command, which was responsible for one of the first airlifts to Antarctica. He was also Commander and Director of Operations of the 63rd Troup Carrier Wing (MATS) in Greenville, S.C. During his last tour of duty in Europe, he was Commanding Officer of the SHAPE (NATO) Operations Center, the command post for all allied forces in Europe. He ended his tour of duty as Plans Officer for the United States Delegation to the NATO Military Committee in Washington, D.C. After his retirement in 1967, he joined Executive Jet Aviation as acting Vice President of Plans and also Secretary of Board of Directors. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline L. Steinemann; three sons, Bradley Steinemann, Jacksonville, Fla., John Steinemann, Salisbury, Md., and F.C. ''Duke'' Steinemann, Ponte Vedra, Fla. A native of Suffern, New York, Mrs. Hendrick was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman J. Wood and the late Marion Murdock Wood. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2001 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 498 Prince Avenue, Athens, Georgia, with the Reverend Mandy Brady officiating. A private internment will take place at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Georgia. Mrs. Hendrick was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Master's degree in the education of children with emotional disabilities. She held a certificate as a national instructor and demonstration teacher for the Developmental Therapy-Teaching Programs in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. Her career was a reflection of her dedication to children with special needs. She had numerous publications in the field of educating young children with autism and served as field services coordinator for the University teacher training program. She also was coordinator of the Rutland Psychoeducational Infant/Preschool Program and a staff clinician in the University's Special Education Clinic in Aderhold Hall, specializing in services for young children with autism and their families. In 1982 she helped establish the Emmanuel Episcopal Day School, which provides spaces for young children with special needs, and served as the director during its formative years. She was recently honored with the establishment of a scholarship fund for Emmanuel Episcopal Day School in her name. Survivors include her parents; her husband, Alan Hendrick; a daughter, Sarah Reynolds Hendrick; a son, Alan Hunter Hendrick; a sister, Elizabeth Wood Harbison; a brother, David Murdock Wood; two stepsisters, Cynthia Creagh Flanders and Margaret Andrews Hancock; a stepbrother, William Alexander Andrews; aunt, Lenore Murdock; and seven nieces and nephews.
