A native of Hart County, Mr. Estes was a son of the late James Elbert Estes and Annie Jordan Estes. He was retired from the engineering department at Newton Mills. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and helped build the Hart County Little League fields. He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church serving as a former Sunday School Superintendent, church secretary and treasurer. He helped with MYF, the re-building of the church and caring for the cemetery, was a member of the Men SS Class and was a Trustee. A native of Somerville, Mass., Mr. Dieball was a son of Alfred and Marguerite Dieball. He attended parochial school in Canada and served in the United States Infantry in Europe during World War II from 1940 to 1945. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and accepted a teaching position at the University of Georgia, where he was an art professor. He later became chairman of the graphic design department and served as department head. He was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Auxiliary, Atlanta. He was the retired owner and operator of Pruitt Furniture Company and a member and former Deacon of Seneca Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the North African and Italian Campaign of the European Theater during World War II. He was wounded at Anzio Beach and received the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Combat Medal, and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Seneca American Legion, Seneca Masonic Lodge, and of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Services will be at noon today at Seneca Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oconee Memorial Park. A native of Plainfield, N.J. and longtime resident of Bloomsbury, N.J., she was a daughter of Lothar and Violet Sudekum, presently of Grand Rapids, Mich. Katharine was a 1974 graduate of Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, with a degree in music, and a 1985 graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., with a master's degree in library science. During her career, she worked for several library automation companies and retired from Follett Software Company in February, 2001. Katharine was a hot air balloon pilot and an ailurophile. She was an exceptional friend whose friendships spanned the nation. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the family farm in Bloomsbury, N.J. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:13 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 Thomas E. Colbert Jr. Athens Thomas Elvin Colbert, Jr., 81, of 150 Valleywood Lane, Athens died Monday, May 28, 2001. A native of Bibb County, CDR Colbert was the son of Thomas Elvin, Sr. and Edna Earl Snipes Colbert. He was superintendent of Georgia Natural Gas serving in both Thomaston, Ga. and Athens. He retired in December 1985. CDR Colbert enlisted in the US Navy July 1940 as a seaman. He served honorably during World War II and the Korean conflict as a fighter and dive-bomber pilot in the South Pacific. In July 1974, he transferred to the Retired Reserve as CDR, USNR. He was CDR of Squadron V-153 based in Marietta for three years, during which time his squadron received outstanding safety and achievement awards. He retired from the US Navy January 1980, with a total of 21 years satisfactory service. CDR Colbert was a mason and a member of the Al Siah Shrine Temple of Macon, the Athens Kiwanis Club, Retired Officers Association, Moser Bible Sunday School Class and Forest Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hall Colbert, Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Steven Monroe, Apopka, FL; two granddaughters, Heather Lynne Roe, Bellville, IL and Molly Sandheinrich, Apopka, FL; a great grandson, Ethan Sandheinrich, Apopka, FL; and a niece, Brenda Hall Rice, Jacksonville, FL.
