Katie was born October 8, 1922 in Madison County, GA. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Gussie Escoe Brown. Katie graduated from Crawford High School, Class of 1939. She was self employed and owner of Casual Wear in Crawford, a member of Crawford Womenís Club and a member of Crawford Baptist Church and Oglethorpe Historical Society. She had a historical book published ìOglethorpe County School and Community Remembered,î as well as, ìHistory of Crawford High Schoolî and ìHistory of Arnoldsville High School.î All proceeds were donated to start the Crawford Cemetery Perpetual Care and Arnoldsville Cemetery Perpetual Care Funds.A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, George Lamar Bridges, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and James Nicklow; son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Sheryl Bridges, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Kerry Bridges, Kim and John Messer, Jason Bridges, Kristan Davis and Russell Wise, Philip and Kristi Davis, and Meghan Davis; nine great-grandchildren; sister and brother- in-law, Vivian and John Pilgrim of Covington, GA; sister-in-law, Lavinia Brown of Douglasville, GA. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a grandson, Lowell Davis.Funeral services will be Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Oglethorpe Chapel. Interment will be in Crawford Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Wayne Hicks, Billy Colquitt, Joel Colquitt, Kerry Bridges, Jason Bridges and Philip Davis.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crawford High School Class of 1939.The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crawford Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, c/o Mrs. Helen Stephens, Crawford, GA, or a charity of your choice.Lord and Stephens, Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
