Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Mattie Wortham Stewart. She was a long-time member of Winterville First Baptist Church, the Marion Coile Sunday School Class and Keen Agers. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Silas L. Carter; and brothers, Paul Stewart, Floyd Stewart and James Earl Stewart. Survivors include her children, Gene and Linda Carter, Blairsville, Gail and Larry Dendy, Winterville, and Harry Ray and Michele Carter, Comer; a sister, Bernice Duncan, Commerce; grandchildren, Brian Carter, Hartwell, Tracie Greene and husband, Bobby, Crossville, Tenn., Tony Carter, Atlanta, and Christopher Dendy and wife, Rozy Park, West Chester, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Katie Greene, Nathan Greene, Park “PD” Dendy and Carter Bohyun Dendy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Ruthie Carter, Hazel Carter, Lloyd Carter, Opal Griffin and Mable Stewart; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, September 1, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Palmer Rehberg and Jeff Lester officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
