William Allen Chastain of Jacksonville, Fla, Mrs. Mollie Shelnutt, and daughters of Johnson City, Tenn. And Mrs. Jim Layton of Atlanta are invited to attend the funeral of Rev. William Allen Chastain Saturday morning, March 14, 1931, at ten (10:00) o’clock from the First Christian church. Rev. Stanley R. Grubb will officiate. The following gentlemen will please serve as active pallbearers and meet at McDorman-Bridges at 9:45 promptly: Mr. C. F. Elder, Mr. H. H. Elder, Mr. H. L. Parr, Mr. E. E. Bishop, Mr. Golden Michael and Mr. G. A. Doster. The following gentlemen will please serve as honorary pallbearers and will meet at the First Christian church at 9:50 a.m. promptly: Mr. M. D. Browning, Mr. A. G. Elder, Mr. S. L. Autry, Mr. T. H. Barrett, Mr. L. W. Sparks, Mr. J. F. Whitehead and Dr. H. M. Fullilove. Interment will be in the Oconee Hill cemetery. McDorman-Bridges. Rev. Chastain Former Athens Minister, Dies A former pastor of the First Christian church here, Rev. William Allen Chastain, 75 died at his home in Jacksonville, Fla., Wednesday night, after an illness of several months. The body arrived here this morning. Funeral services will be held in the First Christian church Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Rev. S. R. Grubb, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Oconee cemetery, with McDorman-Bridges in charge. Pallbearers will be: C. F. Elder, H.H. Elder, H. L. Parr, E. E. Bishop, Golden Michael, and G. A. Doster. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: M. D. Browning, A. G. Elder, S. L. Autry, T. H. Barrett, L. W. Sparks, J. F. Whitehead and Dr. H. M. Fullilove. Rev. Chastain had been in the ministry for more than thirty-five years. He had been pastor of Christian churches in the following counties: Athens twice, in ten years, Monroe College Park, Jefferson and the Second Christian church in Augusta. He was a third Degree Mason. Rev. Chastain was born in Fannin county GA. He would have celebrated his 76th birthday with in a month. Surviving Rev. Chastain are two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Shellnutt, Johnson City, Tenn; and Mrs. Jim Layton of Atlanta.
