OBITUARY FOR THOMAS GUY CRAWFORD

CRAWFORD RITES
HELD Wednesday 

Services for Tomas Guy Crawford were held from Bridges Chapel Wednesday 
afternoon at 4 o’clock.  The Rev. Newton Saye, pastor of Edwards Chapel 
Baptist Church officiated.

Burial was in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens.  Pallbearers were Huford Crawford, 
John Henry Crawford, Olin Farmer, Dupree Crawford, Crawford Farmer and Harold 
Farmer. 

Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Hale Crawford, Orlando; two 
sons, Tommie and Michael Crawford, both of Orlando; step-son, Keith Summers 
(Orlando; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Crawford, Athens; three sisters, Mrs. H. 
B. Young, Athens, Mrs. J. E. Hayes, Farmington, and Mrs. J. L. Chamblee, 
Charlotte, N. C., two brothers, Ray and Eberhart Crawford, both of 
Watkinsville. 

A native of Jackson County, Mr. Crawford lived in Athens for a number of years 
until moving to Orlando, a month ago.  He was a grazler by profession. 

Mr. Crawford, Jim Cormeley of Stone Mountain, and Mr. Crawford’s step son, 
Keith Summers, were fishing in Lake Hickory Nut, near Orlando, when their boat 
overturned. Mr. Crawford and Mr. Cormeley were both drowned but Mr. Summers 
managed to save himself by swimming to shore. 

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Crawford had many friends here who were 
saddened by news of his death.
