Officating will be Rev. R. N. Saye, pastor of Edward’s Chapel, and burial will follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Pall-bearers will be Bartow Strickland, Sheriff Tommy Huff, Curtis Hammond, Jack Thornton, Don Johnson, Dan Warwick, Stanley Little and Oscar McLeroy. Surviving Mr. Day is his wife, the former Miss Thelma Epps, whom he married here in November of 1948; son, Deaver Day, Athens, father; J C Day, Lexington; mother, Mrs J C Day, Athens; five sisters, Mrs Al Lonckl, Chicago, Ill., Mrs J I Stokes, Bamberg, SC, Mrs F M Yenerall, Niagara Falls, N Y and Mrs Grace Little and Mrs Roy Amos, both of Athens; two brothers, Earl Day and G T Day, both of Atlanta. A native of Lexington, Mr Day had resided here most of his life. He attended Athens schools and entered the Navy in 1943, being on active duty in the Pacific Theater. He spent three years in service and then returned to Okinowa to help construct military installations. He later returned to Athens and worked here and in Atlanta. At the time of his death he was working on the new Library Building at the University. Mr. Day was 31 years old and was a member of the Baptist Church. Coroner, S C Cartledge opened an inquest into the death of Mr Day but since reports of specialists will not be available until Tuesday, recessed the inquest until then.
