He had been ill for several months. Dr. Goldsmith was born in Atlanta and attended the Univesity of Georgia where he earned a batchelor of science in chemistry and biology before entering Harvard Medical School. He received his medical degree in 1922 and spent three years interning at Children's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Emmanuel Episcopal church. The Rev. Raby Edwards, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be ade to a favorite charity. The family will be at the residence of his son on Cleveland Road. After his intershipm ,Dr. Goldsmith went into practice in Atlanta and stayed there until he went into the Navy during World War II. After the war, he came to Athens with his wife, the late Margaret Rowe Goldsmith, who was a native of Athens. When he opened his office on Nov. 1, 1945, he was one of four pediatricians in Athens. Following his retirement from regular practice on Nov. 1, 1970, he worked part-time at the Clarke County Health Dept. and at the Georgia Retardation Center. Dr. Goldsmith was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and was active in the church. He was also a member of the American Medical Association. Survivors include his son, Athens Architect, Lauren Goldsmith, Jr. his daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. Bridges Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
