J. A. GRIER The Banner, July 23, 1913 Transcribed by Connie Epps Bond September 29, 2006 (From Tuesday’s Banner) MRS. J. A. GRIER Died on Yesterday Yesterday morning about 10 o’clock occurred the death of Mrs. J. A. Grier at her residence at 305 Jackson street, in this city after a long illness. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. L. Thomas, of this city, and a son Mr. T. J. Grier, of Columbus, Ohio. The funeral, will be conducted by the Rev. J. W. Walden this afternoon at half after five o’clock from the Jackson street residence. The interment will be in Oconee cemetery. The following are the pallbearers; Messrs, H. J. Rowe, C. H. Bailey, R. I. Bowden, J. B. Anchors, and Y. H. Cash and Dr. H. R. Palmer. These pallbears are asked to meet promptly at the residence at 5:25. Mrs. Grier has lived in Athens most of her life. She was in her seventy-ninth year at the time of her death. A member of the Baptist church for many years she was known as a Christian who put into her daily walk and conversation the teachings of the Master she so loyally and implicitly served. Her husband, the late Mr. J. A. Grier, was a corporal in the Confederate army and was well known, Mrs. Grier was a cousin of Alexander H. Stephens and connected with some of the best families of the state.
