We know that under the laws of nature sooner or later all human kind must return to dust, and yet how often does the grim Reaper single out for his sickle the brightest __af or strongest stalk of growing grain. A week ago and if called upon to point out the best physical man in Athens, no one would have hestitate to have named Mr. Toombs Meadow, the popular salesman at Messrs. J. S. King & Co’s, and yet today he lies a corpse at the home of his father in Danielsville. On Christmas Eve Mr. Meadow, in company with some friends, went hunting, and while on this expedition of pleasure, he took cold, and went at once to bed. The slight cold increased andit was not long until it had developed into a violet case of pneumonia which baffled the skill of the attendant physician, until yesterday morning in the early hours, when the Great Physician quieted the beating heart, stilled the throbbing pulse, and bore the ransomed soul home. Mr. Meadow was a young man of about twenty-five years of age, and was possessed of sterling character. He came from Danielsville to Athens about two years since and had been a salesman for Messrs. J. S. King & Co. up too the time of h is death. A short while since he was married to Miss Bessie Durham, of this city, who is left to mourn his untimely taking off. The death of Mr. Meadow follows closely upon the deaths of his brother and sister hardly two months since; and one of his brothers now lies dangerously ill at his home in Danielsville. Yesterday afternoon at five o’clock at the residence, quite a number of friends gathered to pay their last sad tribute to the departed. Rev. T. R. Kendall preached the funeral sermon, remarking upon the noble Christian life of the deceased, evidenced by a consistent membership in the church of Christ. The remains of Mr. Meadow will be carried to Danielsville this morning, where they will be interred in the family burying ground. The Silent Grave Receives the Mortal Remains of Mr. Toombs Meadow Tuesday the funeral cortege slowly wended its way from a once happy home in Athens, and bore with it the remains of a young man, well thought of, and highly esteemed. In the quiet cemetery at Danielsville, while weeping friends and relatives tood around the early grave of the departed, the mortal remains of Mr. Toombs Meadows were consigned to their last resting place. It was a sad scene, indeed, to witness; the parents giving up their third child in the short space of two months, andyet all bore it with a Christian resignation. Mrs. Meadow will still reside in Athens. Her husband carried upon his life the sum of $2,500, in a policy in the Northwestern Life Insurance Company, which was taken out not long since.
