Dr. Wm L. Mitchel (sic), who has been for the past thirty years, Professor of Law in the University, died this noon. Among the Masonic Fraternity Professor Mitchell occupied a high position, being one of the thirty-third degree, from the convention of which, at Washington, he has just returned. The college exercises are suspended, for the day. Col. Mitchell married in this city his last wife, a Miss Bass, who preceeded him several years to the tomb. He was a brother of Mr. Walter H. Mitchell, once State treasurer, and long a resident of Milledgeville. Dr. Mitchell was the superintendent of Athens Presbyterian Sabbath School, when the writer first united with it, fifty years ago. Dr. Mitchell was 78 years of age at the time of his death.
