L.NEWMAN The Banner, Friday morning, June 12, 1903 DOD: June 7, 1903 Mr. A. L. Newman meets Death Beneath Wheels Of an Engine Mr. A. L. Newman, who several years since was mail carrier on the Georgia railroad and lived in Athens, was run over and instantly killed in Social Circle Sunday by a passenger train. Mr. Newman expected to get on the train at that point and as it came into town he stepped as he thought from the mail line to the side track when as a matter of fact he stepped directly onto the main track. Before he could remedy his mistake he was struck by the engine and killed instantly. Mr. Newman was well know here, and had many friends who will learn of his death with profound sorrow.
