Mrs. Nickerson Passes Away - - - - - - - - - - - - Just at one o’clock last Tuesday morning Mrs. Marie E. Nickerson, wife of the late Capt. Reuben Nickerson, passed away at her home on Thomas street, after an illness of some time. She was born in Fonda, N.Y., July 12, 1828, and was married to Capt. Nickerson, of Maine, in 1855. She has been a resident of Athens for many years and was greatly beloved by all who knew her for her many traits of Christian character. Her relatives in Athens at the time of her death were Mrs. Hattie Dede, of New York, Mrs. D. P. Haselton, of this city, and Mrs. Sophie Lazenby. Relatives by marriage were Mrs. A. H. Davison, Mrs. Lambert, and Mr. T. H.Nickerson. The funeral of Mrs. Nickerson was held at her late residence and was conducted by Rev. A. A. Sullivan, pastor of Oconee Street Methodist church, of which the deceased had been a member for fifty-four-years, and Revs. S. R. England, pastor of Young Harris Memorial church, and A. J. Sears, pastor of the Methodist church at Winterville, each of whom paid beautiful and appropriate tribute to the memory of Mrs. Nickerson. The interment was in Oconee cemetery.
