He obtained a hope in Christ in 1810, and joined the church at Cloud’s Creek, August 7th, 1812 – moved his membership to Beaverdam about 34 years ago, where he was son ordained a deacon and made Clerk of the church, and continued a consistent Old School Baptist, firm in the faith once delivered unto the saints, until the time of his departure from this present evil world. Truly he filled the office of a deacon well, and purchased to himself a good degree and great boldness in the faith. In this dispensation of Divine Providence, the country has lost one of its best citizens, his neighborhood an excellent neighbor, his distressed and bereaved widow, a most kind husband, and his children (who are all of age and married) a most tender and affectionate father, and his servants a kind and indulgent master. He bore his long and painful affliction with patience becoming his profession, until he fell asleep in Jesus, without a struggle or groan. Peace be to his ashes! May God bless the disconsolate widow, with all the children, relatives and kind neighbors who attended on him during his sickness, death and burial, and prepare them all to meet him where sighing and sorrow shall flee away, is the earnest desire of a friend and brother.
