Mr. Oldham was a native of Clarke County and was the widower of Floris Anne Hackett Oldham. He was the son of the late Kingsley Allen and Julia Mae Couch Oldham. He was a retired assistant superintendent at the Standard Oil terminal and a veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Oldham was a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge #22 F&AM and a member of Young Harris United Methodist Church. Mr. Oldham began his Masonic travels to Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 22 where he was Initiated, Passed and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in June and July 1939. Shortly thereafter he was appointed an officer and served as Worshipful Master in 1945. For many years he served as the Grand representative of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire Near the Grand Lodge of Georgia. Most Worshipful Grand Master Ralph C. James named Brother Oldham Grand Marshal of the Grand Lodge for 1970-71. He received the Order of High Priesthood and presided as Excellent President of the Grand Council of Anointed High Priests in Georgia. Beginning the Grand Chapter office line in 1971, Most Excellent Companion Oldham was elected Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Masons in Georgia for 1977-78. His wife, Floris, helped initiate Brother Oldham in Salonia Chapter No. 277 of the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron in 1961-62. Floris and Marvin later demitted to Athens Chapter No. 268, where Floris served as Worthy Matron in 1968-69, Marvin served as Worthy Patron in 1964-65. Brother Oldham was a Charter member of Athens Shrine Club No. 1 and was appointed by not less than seven Potentates as an Ambassador for Yaarab Shrine Temple. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Palmer and the Rev. Mike Marsingill officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Rosalyn O. Holl, Athens; a son and daughter- in-law, Edwin H. and Nancy Oldham, Athens; five brothers, Floyd Oldham, Donald Oldham, Charles Oldham, Elder Oldham, Chester Oldham; five sisters, Ruth Morgan, Frances Tyler, Elsie Ballard, JoAnne Heines, Evie Hart; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Patrick Holl, Earl Harris, Joe Clark, Gene Oldham, Allen Wes Oldham and Jay Holl. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Masons Mt. Vernon Lodge and Eastern Star.
