Oliver was held at his late residence on Nantahala avenue Sunday afternoon at four o’clock in the presence of a large number of sorrowing friends. So large a number attended the funeral that at least two hundred men were outside the house during the services. From many friends came lovely floral tributes that attested the love and esteem in which the deceased was held. The mayor and council of Athens and the county officers attended in a body, while the members of Mr. Vernon Lodge of Masons were present to officiate with the last sad rites of the order of which the deceased was a most faithful member. The services at the residence were very simple, the songs being omitted on account of the illness of Mrs. Oliver. Rev. L. G. Johnson, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which Mr. Oliver had long been a member read the Scriptures, offered a prayer and made a beautiful talk to those present. At the grave in Oconee Cemetery the Masonic rites were conducted by Worshipful Mater Palmer, and the members of the lodge.
