HARVEY T. HUGGINS, LEAD- ING ATHENS MERCHANT, IS DEAD (From Tuesday's Banner.) Sunday afternoon, about half after seven o'clock, at his home at 297 Barber street, occurred the death of Mr. Harvey Tryon Huggins, aged fifty-nine years, passed away, after an illness which had extended over several months and had baffled the best skill of the medical profession in this country to relieve. Mr. Huggins is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary A. Huggins; two sons, Mr. Hugh T. Huggins, of Atlanta and Percy L. Huggins of Athens; three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Chandler, Mrs. A. L. Harper, and Miss Maybeth Huggins, all of Athens; two brothers, Messrs H. H. Huggins and J. H. Huggins of Athens; and three sisters, Mrs. Charles W. Asbury of Atlanta, Mrs. C. C. Huggins of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mrs. J. R. Palmour of Atlanta. Surviving also are hundreds of friends -- many of whom had known and esteemed and loved him through the years. The funeral will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. Dr. J. C. Morris, from the First Methodist church, this afternoon at 5 o'clock and the interment will be in Oconee cemetery. The following will be the pall-bearers: Messers. D. F. Miller, Thomas F. Comer, Thos. W. Reed, R. P. Stephens, A. W. Doxier, and D. L. Earnest - all members of the official board of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Huggins was at the time of his death a member of the board of stewards of his church - a position he had faithfully and loyally filled for about thirty- five years. He had spent most of his life in Athens. In business he had succeeded beyond the average of business success, becoming years ago a leader among the wholesale and retail merchants of the city. In his business relations he was characterized by conscientious honesty and fair-dealing and honor was one of hte leading characteristics of his active useful life. In his church relations he was among those strong characters which stand loyally in every storm of circumstance - ever at his post, always ready to do his part and a little more and always the same in quiet, unassuming gentleness, goodness, charity, and firm devotion to the principles of the Christian faith he truly exemplified. In his home he was a model husband and father and as a neighbor many had reason to value him highly for his fine qualities of the best type of neighborliness. As a citizen he was strong and true to his convictions of right. The city of Athens has lost a splendid citizen, the family has lost a devoted husband and father, the church has lost one of its most valued official members, and hundreds in and around Athens have lost a true friend in the death of Mr. Huggins.
