LON PARR Athens Banner, Sunday, November 25, 1951 Transcribed by Connie Epps Bond July 27, 2007 Death Takes Mrs. Parr Saturday; Services Today Mrs. Lon Parr, member of one of the city’s widely known families, died at her home at 120 West Dougherty Street, yesterday morning at 3 o’clock. Mrs. Parr was 79 years old and had been ill for several months. Services are to be conducted this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from First Methodist Church with the pastor, Dr. Dow Kirkpatrick, and Dr. E. L. Hill, pastor emeritus of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Bridges Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pall-bearers will be Frank Fowler, Howard Huff, William England, Damon Watson, Henry Parr, Walter Martin, Ernest Coleman and Grady Parr. Mrs. Parr is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. K. Patrick and Mrs. Ada Wendlinger, both of Athens; three sons, Wade Parr, Jack England Parr and Harry W. Parr, all of Athens; six grandchildren, Kenneth Parr, Wade Parr, Jr., and Mrs. J. W. Broadhurst, all of Athensn, Olin Parr, Baltimore, Md., Harry Parr, Jr., Mississippi and Mrs. H. J. Thomas, Long Island, N. Y. and seven great- grand children. Mrs. Parr was the daughter of the late Alphonso and Martha England, and was a native of Athens where she spent her entire life. She was one of the oldest members of First Methodist Church, having joined as a girl and she was devoted to her church and its activities. However, because of her lengthy illness, the pleasure of attending services had been denied her for the past two years. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. One of Athens’ most beloved citizens, Mrs. Parr spent much time at Patrick’s Pharmacy when it was operated by her son-in- law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. J. K. Patrick and since that business came under new ownership, had spent her time at her home on West Doughterty Street where she had resided for the past thirty-one years.
