MR. T. J. POSS

Veteran of War, Honored 
and Respected Citizen, 
Died Last Evening

Mr. T. J. Poss died yesterday afternoon at 7:30 at his home on the Normal 
School Heights. 

Mr. Poss was born in Madison county, Georgia, September 9, 1846.  He gave two 
years of service for the cause of the Confederacy. There are only four 
remaining veterans living who were in his company.  Mr. Poss was with his 
company when it surrended in High Point, N. C. 

After returning from the army Mr. Poss, who was then a young man, began life 
on a farm near Athens and married Miss Mary McElroy in December, 1866.  

He joined the Baptist church when about 16 years of age.  He has lived an 
honest and upright life and has had the absolute confidence of all who knew 
him. He believed in his fellow-man and was known for his honest and fair 
dealings by every one who knew him. He is survived by his wife. 

The funeral service will be held from the home at 10 o’clock a.m. tomorrow.  
Mr. J. L. Adams and Rev. S. J. Cartledge will conduct the services.  The 
following are to be the pall-bearers:  Messrs. A. Rhodes, R. M. Davis, J. C. 
Fowler, J. M. Fowler, C. A. Blasingame, and E. S. Sell. 

Honorary pall-bearers, Messrs. T. G. Hadaway, A. G. Elder, W. S. Holman, J. E. 
Talmadge, Sr., F. G. Griffeth, I. V. Bardbery, G. W. Mason, John Potts, E. R. 
Hodgson, Sr., and W. R. Tuck.
