Vickers RVick72827@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parr The Athens Banner, Friday January 29, 1897 Clarke's Oldest Citizen Goes to Her Reward Miss Rebecca Parr The oldest person in Clarke County has entered rest. Almost a century of years crowned the life of Miss Rebecca Parr when she answered the summons of our Master to come up higher. Miss Parr had lived to be ninety-seven years of age and had enjoyed remarkably good health for a person of her age. A few days since she was attacked by the grip, and her advanced age rendered her recovery impossible. She died Sunday night at eleven o'clock at the home of her grand-niece Mrs. William M. Pittman, of this city. Miss Parr lived two centuries having ben born in 1799. She left a large number of relatives in Athens being the grand aunt of many. Calvin Vardy, M.H., C.A., G.D., B.H., and A.N. Parr of this city. The funeral of Miss Parr was conducted yesterday afternoon at three o'clock at the home of Mr. W.M. Pitman. Rev Ellison D. Stone conducted the funeral service in a most solomn and impressive manner. The remains were laid to rest in Oconee cemetery.
