C. Shackelford will be held this morning at eleven o'clock at the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Shackelford on Prince avenue. The services will be conducted by Rev. Joel T. Daves, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which the deceased was a member. The Knights of Pythias will attend the funeral in a body out of respect to the memory of their deceased brother. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers, Messrs. J. S. King, J. F. Rhed s, (sic), T. H. Nickerson, W. H. Kytle, R. J. Hancock, E. G. Turner, W. M. Crane and J. H. Dozier. The interment will be in Oconee cemetery. The death of Mr. Shackelford was a peculiarly sad affair, and was a great shock to both family and friends. A slight operation successfully performed, under the use of chloroform, properly administered, resulted in death from causes neither patient nor physicians could have foreseen. It was one of those mysterious dispensations of Providence which only the all-wise and all merciful Father understands. Mr. Shackelford was rapidly forging his way to the front in the business world. He had a responsible position with the Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis, and was building up for his firm a large and profitable business in the section of the country he covered. He was a young man of bright, sunny tempered disposition, and numbered his friends by the hundreds. He was an enthusiastic member of St. Elmo Lodge, Knights of Pythias, of this city. The sympathies of many friends go out to his sorrowing relatives in their bereavement. The Athens Daily Banner 8 March 1901 p 4 SHACKELFORD-The friends and acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
