C. Shackelford is no more. He came in last night on the Georgia train from Union Point and went to the office of Dr. H. M. Fullilove, where an operation was performed, and death resulted from chloroform anesthesia. The operation was successfully performed by Drs. Goss and Fullilove, and the patient afterwards collapsed. Few young men in Athens had more friends than did genial Will Shackelford. He was ever genial, ever accommodating, and was the life of any set of young men with whom he was thrown. In his 25th year, with every promise of a long and useful career, to be thus suddenly cut down is a great blow to parents, brothers and sisters. Soon after his death his brothers Messrs. Frank and Tom Shackelford were at the side of their loved brother and they were crushed, and as the news passed over the streets many of his young friends hastened to the scene, and many were the expressions of sympathies and regret heard on all sides. Mr. Shackelford was for some years with the Athens Hardware Co., but had lately been with the Simmons Hardware Co., of St. Louis. He was a member of the K. of P., and a member of the Methodist church.
