Hughes Keigwin Shell, 84, of Athens, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006. A native of Athens, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Rob and Ruby Beard Hughes. She was a longtime resident of Madison County, where she served as Chief Magistrate. She was a member of Pleasant Grove and Joy Baptist Church. Mrs. Shell was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Shell; a brother, Larry Hughes; and a son, Raymond Bruce Keigwin. Survivors include a sister, Edna Lois Watson; sister-in-law, Roma Hughes; nieces, Veda James, Liz Copenhaver and Sheila Alva; one nephew, Robert Hughes; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 15, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Barry Black officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
