Born in Barrow County, he was the son of Ruby Healan Wade of Athens and the late Willie Thomas Wade. Mr. Wade was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Carroll Wade. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, and the 70 and Up Sunday School Class. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army and Navy. He served following the Korean Conflict and aboard the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier during Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Whitworth Wade; step-children, Katrina and O’Dennis Christian, Ken and Tammy Bryant, Phyllis and Tim Thompson, all of Hull, and Alex Ledford, Athens; his mother; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Wesley Cooper, Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Myra Wade, Douglasville, and Jerry and Ellen Wade, Gainesville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, in the chapel at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Fred Rowell, Jerry Horton and Randy Thomas officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the 70 and Up Sunday School Class. Memorial contributions may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
