The wound in the lung had progressed very favorably under the treatment of the attending physicians and from the respiration and other symptoms, it was clearly evident that he would have soon become convalescent. About sixty hours prior to his death, however, septic peritonitis developed which was too much for his system to stand. The funeral will be held this afternoon at three o’clock at the residence and will be conducted by Rev. Ellison D. Stone, superintendent of the Baldwin street Sunday School, of which the deceased was a member. The little boy was fifteen years of age and of a sunny-tempered, lovable disposition. He fought the fight against death unflinchingly and battled against pain with wonderful nerve and endurances. When it became apparent to him that he was dying he met the last foe without trepidation and in his last conscious moments gave expression to his readiness to depart. The following gentlemen are requested to act as pall-bearers and to meet at Dorsey & Funkensteins store at half past two o’clock this afternoon; Messrs H. J. Rowe, R. J. Turner, George Burch, Walter Williams, G. A. Bailey and F. L. Parr. January 23, 1903 WOUNDED BOY CRITICALLY ILL James Williams, theyoung boy who was so badly shot Monday afternoon by the accidental discharge of a gun, is still critically ill. While the chances are against his recovery, he is making a brave a fight and may yet pull through. Transcribed by C. Epps Bond March 24, 2006.
