THE FUNERAL OF 
  MISS WITHERSPOON

Aged Lady Laid to Rest in 
	Oconee Cemetery 
	    Saturday

Saturday morning at ten o’clock at the First Methodist church was held the 
funeral of Miss Emily E. Witherspoon, who died at her home in Selma, Ala., 
Thursday night. 

The remains of the deceased were met at the depot on their arrival and shown 
every respect by loving friends.  The funeral yesterday morning was solmn and 
impressive and quite a large number of friends were present to pay the tribute 
of their affection. 

The choir, consisting of Mrs .J. W. Barnett, Miss May Walden, Mr. Joe Morton, 
and Mr. J.M. Hodgson sang sweetly several funeral hymns, and Dr. Walden, 
pastor of the Presbyterian church, of which the deceased had been a member for 
more than a jubilee of years, made most touching remarks upon the faithful 
service she had given the Master throughout a long and useful life. 

At the conclusion of Dr. Walden’s sermon the casket was borne to the hearse by 
the pall bearers, the elders of the Presbyterian church, and at the grave in 
Oconee cemetery the last sad rites were performed and the remains of this aged 
and esteemed citizen laid to rest by gentle and loving hands.
