At the beautiful old colonial home of the bride's parents on Prince avenue, in Athens, the wedding of Miss Montine Shackelford, of that city, and Mr. Charles Albert Ver Nooy, of Atlanta, took place at noon Nov. 23d. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Walden, of the Presbyterian church of Athens. The bride wore an elegant suit of brown cloth with embroidery about the neck and on the cuffs. The blouse was of white silk and at the throat glistened a diamond broach, the gift of the groom. The toque of brown velvet and a large boquet (sic) of bride roses completed the costume. The bride entered the drawing room with her brother, Mr. Frank Shackelford, and was met at the improvised alter of greens by the groom and his best man, Dr. M. Z. Crist, of Atlanta. After the ceremony a course luncheon was served, the bride and groom leaving soon after for a trip to Washington, New York and other points north. The decorations of the pretty home consisted of smilax, palms, ferns and bowls of La France roses. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles William Shackelford, of Athens, and by her intellectual charm and sweet womanly traits has endeared herself to a large circle of friends who are loath to give her up to a new home. Mr. Ver Nooy is recognized as one of the most successful business men of Atlanta. He has made his home here for a number of years, coming south from New York. Mr. and Ver Nooy (sic) will be at home after December 15th at 201 Peachtree street. The Jackson Herald (Jefferson, Ga.) 1 Dec 1904 p 8 Athens . . .The marriage of Miss Montine Shackelford to Mr. Charles Ver Nooy, which occurred on last Wednesday afternoon, is of unusal (sic) interest to many, both in Jackson and Clarke counties, since the bride lived all her life in these two counties. The two were made one in a beautiful ceremony, by Dr. J. W. Walden, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The bride was beautifully attired in a traveling dress of soft brown material, with hat to match, and carried in her hand a magnificent boquet (sic) of bride's roses. The parlors were tastefully decorated with smilax and other evergreen; and waxen tapers shed a radiant glow over the lovely scene. Delicious refreshments were served after the ceremony had been performed, and then occurred the only thing to mar the pleasure of the occasion. The beautiful young bride bade adieu to her father and mother, and brothers and sisters, and friends and the home of her childhood, to make new friends in a new home.
