He married Rena (?) around 1877 (based on the 1900 census) possibly Henry County, Alabama (where his children were born). Between 1877-1894 they had five children: James, Celia, Lillie, Emmitt and Thomas, Jr - all born in Alabama. Between 1894-1900 Thomas and his family moved to Ft. GAines, Georgia. They were listed in the 1900 census for Clay County, Georgia. Thomas was a farm laborer, and Rena was a cook. \ In 1902 Clovy was born. Thomas, Sr died between 1902-1910 in Clay County, Georgia. Rena was listed in the 1910 census for Clay County, Georgia as a widow. Living with her was:Emmitt, Thomas, Jr and Clovy. She was not listed in the 1920 or 1930 census for Clay County, Georgia. James was born about 1882 in Henry County, Alabama. Between 1894-1900 he moved with his parents, Thomas and Rena to Ft Gaines, Georgia. He was listed in the 1900 census for Clay County, - living with his parents. His occupation was a farm laborer. He married Lucy Woodard. They had a stillborn in 1919. James and Lucy were listed in the 1920 census for Clay County, Georgia. He was a laborer and she was a wash women at home. James and Lucy were not listed in the 1930 cnsus for Clay County, Georgia. Celia was born about 1884 in Alabama. She moved with her parents to Ft Gaines, Georgia between 1894-1900. She was listed in the 1900 census for Clay County - living with Thomas and Rena. Her occupation was a farm laborer. There was a Celia Shaw listed in the Clay County marriage book as married to an Angus Stanley in 1903. They were not listed in the 1910 census for Clay County. An Angus and Cely stanley was listed in the 1920 census for Clay County - living with Lovett Cornelous. They were listed as boarders. Angus was a laborer and Cely was unemployed. Celia and Angus were not listed in the 1930 census for Clay County, Georgia. Lillie was born about 1887 in Alabama. She moved with her parents between 1894-1900 to Ft Gaines, Georgia. She was listed in the 1900 census for Clay County with Thomas and Rena. Her occupation. Her occupation was a farm laborer. There was a Lillie Shaw listed in the Clay County marriage book as married to Lovett Cornelous in Jan 1919. Lillie died Oct 1919 in Clay County, Georgia. Emmitt was born about 1893 in Alabama. He moved with his parents to Ft. Gaines,Georgia between 1894-1900. He was listed in the 1900 census for Clay County with Thomas and Rena - attending school. In 1910 Emmitt was living with his widowed mother: Rena and still attending school. He married Ellener Stinson in 1917 in Ft. Gaines. Between 1917-1920 they had two children: Rena Lee and Lea Mae. (Rena was born in 1918 and died in 1919). Emmitt, "Ellee" and Lena were listed in the 1920 census for Clay County, Georgia. Emmitt was a laborer in a mill and Ellee was unemployed. Two more children were born between 1920-1923: Emmitt Jr, and Amos. Emmitt and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio between 1924-1925. They had one more child: Eugene. They were listed in the 1930 census for Franklin County, Ohio. Emmitt was a grinder and Ellee was doing housework for a private family. Ellener died at her residence in 1966 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 73. Emmitt, Sr died at St. Anthony Hospital in 1971 at the age of 78. Thomas, Jr, my great grandfather, was born about 1894 in Shortesville, Alabama. He moved with his parents to Ft. Gaines, Georgia between 1894- 1900. He was living with in parents in the 1900 census for Clay County - age 8 and not attending school. Thomas married my great grandmother in 1913 Ft. Gaines. Between 1913-1920 (right before the 1920 census), they had three children: Lucy Bell, my grandmother, Thomas III and Sam. They were listed in the 1920 census for Clay County. Between 1920-1922 they had two more children: Isaac and Gloria. (Sam died between 1920-1922 in Clay County). Between 1922-1923 Thomas, Sr and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio where they had three more children: John, Rudolph, and Cornelia. They were listed in the 1930 census for Franklin County, Ohio. Thomas was a laborer doing odd jobs and Hester was unemployed. Hester died at her residerence in 1941 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 45. Thomas, Sr then married Ludie Pierson in 1947. Thomas, Sr died in Columbus, Ohio at St. Anthony Hospital in 1974 at the age of 80. Clovy was born about 1902 in Clay County, Georgia. She was listed in the 1910 census with her widowed mother:Rena. She was 8 years old and not attending school. She was not listed in the census for Clay County, Georgia from 1920- 1930.
