Gaines, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at his residence. The graveside funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines. The Rev. Walter Flint and the Rev. Roger Melton will officiate. Mr. Giles was born January 18, 1923, in Poulan, Ga., son of the late Thomas Hardy Giles and Minnie Harvey Giles. He was a graduate of Bronwood High School and had lived in Clay County for the past 26 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, was a former coroner of Clay County, and was a member of Ft. Gaines Presbyterian Church. Mr. Giles was retired from the Tampa, Fla. Fire Department as a paramedic, was a member of the Tampa Fireman Association, and was a member of the Southeastern Senior Golf Association. Survivors include his wife, Frances Moore Giles of Ft. Gaines; son, James A. Giles Jr. of Ft. Gaines; daughter, Carol Elaine Giles of Takoma Park, Maryland; two brothers, John Giles of Ft. Gaines and Carl Jordan Giles of Floyd, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of Ft. Gaines Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1, Ft. Gaines, Ga. 31751.
