Lester Dewey Morrison Jr., 76, of Fort Gaines, died early Saturday morning, March 9, 2002, in a Dothan hospital after extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (E.S.T.) Monday in the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jack Taylor and Randy Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the New Park Cemetery in Fort Gaines with Holman Abbeville Mortuary directing. The body will be placed in the church an hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. (E.S.T.) today (Sunday) at the mortuary in Abbeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 845, Fort Gaines, Ga. 31751. Mr. Morrison was born in Ashford, Alabama, the son of the late Lester Dewey Morrison Sr., and Myrtle Lee Fleming Morrison. He was reared in Henry County, near Shorterville, but lived in Fort Gaines all his adult life. Mr. Morrison was a member of the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was retired as the owner and operator of Morrison's Body Shop in Fort Gaines. Mr. Morrison was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by a sister, Majorie Gilbert. Surviving are his wife, Merle Money Morrison, Fort Gaines; two sons, Lester Dewey Morrison III and his wife, Pam Morrison, Fortson, Ga., Steve Patrick Morrison and his wife, Tina Morrison, Bainbridge; six grandchildren, Nikki Ray, Corey Morrison, Collin Morrison, Amy Griffis, Abby Hines, Andy Berli; a sister, Nell Adams and her husband, Herbert Adams of Dothan, Ala.; a brother, Dwight Morrison and his wife, Angie Morrison, Fort Gaines; and several nieces and nephews.
