Gaines and Atlanta, GA, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, after a long illness. Mrs. Rucker was born April 10, 1932 in Ft. Gaines, GA. She was the daughter of Justin O. Baldwin and Jimmie Elizabeth Arnold (Baldwin) Holmes and James Edward Holmes. She attended Valdosta State College and was graduated from the University of Georgia, where she obtained a B.A. in Fine Arts. She was married to the late Thomas Lamar Rucker, and spent many years in Atlanta, where they both held long term careers as supervisors in the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services. Mrs. Rucker was an accomplished artist, with a painting hanging permanently in the Georgia Governor's Mansion. She was a world traveler as well, having visited Europe, China, Russia, Mexico, Canada and Israel. She was active in many civic and church organizations. The preservation of the Chattahoochee River and animal rights groups were paramount in her concern. She is survived by a brother, William Parker Miller of Statesboro, GA; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Tribble of Upstate, New York; a son and daughter-in- law, Alton Joseph Tribble III and Gail Hopper Tribble and a granddaughter, Grace Marion Tribble, all of Atlanta. The family will receive friends, Friday June 29, 2007 at Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert, GA, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Ft. Gaines, GA at 2:00PM Saturday, June 30, 2007, with graveside services to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for The International Fund for Animal Welfare and for the Humane Society of the United States.
