E. Redding." "On last Thursday night after our paper had been put to press, we received the sad intelligence of the death of Dr. C. E. Redding, who had just departed this life at his residence here. Dr. Redding had been in failing health for several years, but only of recent months had it been noticeable that he might be called to pass into to beyond at any hour. About a month ago, feeling that the local physicians would not be able to render him any benefit, he went to Atlanta for special treatment, but received no material benefit, and came home to spend his last hours on earth in the bosom of his family. Dr. Redding had been with his family, a resident of Fort Gaines for quite a number of years, and when physically able enjoyed quite a successful and lucrative practice in his profession, and always the esteem and confidence of the people. The writer does not know enough of Dr. Redding's family history to be able to write an obituary, but he does know that he was one of nature's nobleman, -- an earnest, patient, hard-working professional gentleman, -- such a man as will always live in the hearts and memories of those who knew him best. We shall miss his quiet, gentlemanly and courteous greetings as we go to and fro our daily tasks, but we shall expect to strike hands with im on "the everlasing shores of deliverance." His wife and children are receiving the sympathies of our entire people. His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery here last Friday morning at 10 o'clock."
