S. E. Lewis Dead The news of the death of this Christian gentleman will carry sadness into the homes of every citizen throughout this section. The Sentinel in its last issue announced the critical illness of Capt. Lewis, caused from an old wound on his foot which developed into blood poison and necessitated the amputation of his foot, and the final cause of his death on Saturday afternoon about 4 o'clock. His remains were interred in the Park cemetery on Sunday afternoon at 3,30 [sic] o'clock followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. The last sad rites were conducted by Rev. D. D. Bateman. Capt. Lewis is servived [sic] by a devoted wife and three children, Mr. Sam Lewis, of New York, and Mrs. Geo. Leslie, of Dothan, Ala., and Miss Marie Lewis. Capt. Lewis was a man of many friends he was never known to have an enemy. He was county school commissioner of Clay county for many years and in this capacity he met and made many friends. The condolence of the Sentinel are extended the sorrowing relatives of the deceased."
