John G. Webb. Although his death has been daily expected for several weeks here, his friends will be pained to hear of his death in the prime of his manhood. He entered the army at the outbreak of the war and served continuously until the battle of Reems' Station, where his left arm was shattered by a grape shot necessitating amputation. A more gallant soldier never donned the Confederate uniform. He went out as 1st Lieutenant of the Fort Gaines Guards, and came home with an empty sleeve and the rank of Colonel. At the time of his death he was Judge of our County Court. A staunch Democrat, an incorrigible patriot, a good citizen and a christian gentleman has ben consigned to his last resting place. Let us emulate his many virtures, and cover with the mantle of clarity his frailties. To his bereaved family, in their loss of their father, husband and son we tender our sincere sympathies. Col. Webb was a beneficiary member of the Lodge of Knights of Honor at this place, and his family will receive $2,000. They would otherwise have been left almost penniless."
