She had gone to that city to receive medical treatment from Dr. Allen for nervous prostration, and was thought by both the physician and herself to be greatly improved, when on Saturday afternoon, just after dark, she was accidentally burned in a very severe manner. The family here was at once notified, and Sunday morning Miss Hattie Lightfoot left for her mother's bedside, arriving there only a short while before death ending the sufferings. As soon as practicable Miss Hattie started home with the remains of her mother, but was detained by the wreck which occurred Monday on the Central Railroad. In the meanwhile Mr. Edwin Lightfoot and Mrs. L. P. Brown had gone to meet their sister, and were detained at Smithville, so that it became necessary for Messrs. T. J. Lightfoot, L. P. Brown and Alex Whatley to make the trip to Cuthbert by private conveyance Monday night, where they met the other members of the family Tuesday morning at about 2 o'clock. The party reached Fort Gaines at about 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, and the interment took place immediately in the cemetery here, being conducted in a most impressive manner by Rev. T. J. Brock, pastor of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. D. D. Bateman. Mrs. Lightfoot was 57 years old, and was a woman of the highest type of christian character. Intellectual, refined, and pious, she was much loved by all who knew her. The simple statement that she was a devoted christian mother, expresses all that could be said of any good woman. To mourn her departure Mrs. Lightfoot leaves her mother, Mrs. Jane Farmer, of Shorterville, Alabama, four sisters, Mrs. M. A. Whatley, of Fort Gaines, Mrs. M. W. Kelly, of Columbus, and Misses Maggie and Jennie Farmer, of Shorterville, Ala.; three brothers, Mr. T. J. Farmer, of Fort Gaines, and Messrs. B. G. and C. B. Farmer, of Dothan, Ala., and five children, Messrs. T. J. and E. W. Lightfoot, Miss Hattie Lightfoot and Mrs. L. P. Brown, of Fort Gaines, and Mrs. Geo. C. Brown of Anniston, Ala. The sincere sympathies of our entire people are with the bereaved ones."
