Mr. Stanley was eighty-odd years old, and while his family and friends realized that he had long since lived out the allotted days of man, they were unprepared for the suddenness of his demise. He was sitting on the front veranda of his home conversing with a friend, when without a moment's indication that there was anyting unusual the matter with him, his head dropped to one side and he was dead. It is supposed to have been a sudden attack of heart disease. His remains were interred at Ebenezer church, in Randolph county. Mr. Stanley moved from Randolph county to this county a number of years ago. In Randolph he had been prominent in all public affairs, and was highly esteemed. Since coming to this county, and until old age unfitted him for active service, he was quite a useful citizen, and was genrally respected. He is survived by quite a large family and numerous relatives, to all of whom the SENTINEL respectifully tenders condolence."
