GAINES, GEORGIA. . .Elinor Pate Hamilton, a resident of Edison Highway, Ft. Gaines, Georgia, died early Monday morning, January 5, 2009, at her home. She was 98. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. (E.S.T.) Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Hines and Reverend Mike Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, Abbeville, Alabama, is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 P. M. (C.S.T.) Tuesday at the mortuary in Abbeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 248, Ft. Gaines, GA. 39851 or to Wiregrass Hospice of Eufaula, 831 W. Washington Street, Eufaula, AL. 36027. Mrs. Hamilton was a native of Clay County, Georgia and was lifelong resident of Ft. Gaines, daughter of the late James Travis Pate and Amy Estelle Craft Pate. She was a member of the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church. Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lang Hamilton, a son, William Hamilton, a son-in-law, Jack Giles, two sisters, Audrey Wilson and Margery Pate, three brothers, Milton Pate, Edwin Pate and Maynard Pate. Surviving relatives include her daughter, Joanna Hamilton Giles, Ft. Gaines; her daughter-in-law, Karen Davison Hamilton, Marietta, GA.; a sister, Eunice Nordan, Abbeville, AL.; three brothers, Willie Jim Pate, Cuthbert, GA.; Marcus Pate and wife, Merri Jo Pate, Lilburn, GA.; Malcolm Pate and wife, Paralee Pate, Cuthbert, GA.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Pate Money, Abbeville, AL.; five grandchildren, Wesley Hamilton and wife, Deanna Hamilton, Kelly Patterson and husband, Chris Patterson, Olga Hamilton, Edward Giles and wife, Kim Giles, Dan Giles and wife, Staci Giles; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
