He was born in Ft. Gaines, a son of the late Patrick Cleburne and Elizabeth Caroline Morris King. Preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Bakner King, two brothers: P.C. King Jr., Fred Morris King, who was killed in WW II, and one sister, Mary Powell, Mr. King is survived by his wife, Mary Sue King of Ft. Gaines; a son, Stephen Szares of Abbeville, Ala., and three grandchildren: Stephen, Nicholas and Lindsey Szares. Survivors also include four sisters: Eleanor Coleman and Elizabeth "Bit" Folger of Ft. Gaines, Nettie Fisher of Decatur and Gabie Chambers of Columbus and many, many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Emory University with a BBA and earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Georgia. A bombardier in the Eighth Air Force during World War II, Mr. King returned to Ft. Gaines where he was Superintendent of Clay County Schools for 28 years. He was active in the Georgia Association of School Superintendents and served on the Georgia Accrediting Commission. He was a member of the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years as well as many other positions. He also served on the County Health Board and was a member of the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution. Funeral services will be conducted today at 10 a.m. at Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church. The Rev. Barth Duke-Barton will officiate with interment in New Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews: Steve Coleman, Steve Shivers, Will Folger, Gray Folger, Fred Fisher, and Mark Powell. Memorials may be made to Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church, P.O.
