V. M. King, a well known farmer of Clay county, living near Bluffton, died early Sunday morning after a short illness. He was stricken last Thursday with stroke of paralysis which rendered him unconscious in which state he remained until death relieved him. Mr. King was 71 years old in June and had lived in the neighborhood where he died all of his life. He was a good citizen and a substantial farmer of that community, and had many friends in Edison, where he done most of his trading for many years, and his sudden death was a great shock to all who knew him. The deceased is survived by the following children all of whom have reached their majority. Mr. D. King, Bluffton; Bernard King, St. Augustine, Fla.; V. M. King, Tamp [sic] Fla., and Mrs. L. J. Brooks, of Clay county, and Mrs. H. A. Brooks, of Bainbridge. He is survived by two brothers, C. C .King of Early county, and J J King of Damascus, and the following sisters, Mrs. Jennie Cannon, Mrs. Mollie Davis, Mrs. Minnie Livingston and Mrs. Johnson, Early county, and Mrs. Katherine Morgan, Ashford Ala. He is also survived by his wife by second marriage, and many other relatives through this section. Mr. King was a member of the Mars Hill Primitive Baptist church and was ever faithful to same; and the funeral services were conducter there Sunday afternoon, interment following in the Mars Hill cemetery. Elder Peddy, pastor was present and had charge of the services. A large crowd was present, and all realizing that a good man had enterred upon the final sleep.
