He was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Rabun County to Guy Whitner Rucker Sr. and Odella Melissa Shirley Rucker. He graduated from the University of Georgia. He was an advisor to the Department of Family and Children Services Department in Atlanta. He retired as a DFCS social worker and moved to Fort Gaines, where he served on the library board. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan in 1955. He was an avid gardener and supplied his friends and his neighbors with fresh produce. He was a member of Fort Gaines United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for years. Survivors include: his wife, Jacquelyn Baldwin Rucker of Fort Gaines; a stepson, Joe Tribble of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Mary Elizabeth Tribble of New York; a grandchild, Grace Marion Tribble; a sister, Sara V. Haley of Hartwell; three nephews; three nieces; and several great nephews and great nieces. A memorial service was held Saturday at Fort Gaines United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Powell Gap Cemetery in the Bridge Creek community with Lloyd Hunter officiating. The family will gather at 3 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home. Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
