Wells-McAllister home located at the corner of Jefferson and Troup Streets. It was built ca. 1880 for John C. Wells, an attorney. In 1897 Robert C. McAllister purchased the home for his bride, Susie. The kitchen of the home was used as the first Clay County Courthouse until its replacement was built in the early 1870s. The structure was then used as a school, probably until the Wells home was constructed and attached to it.
