View of Hancock Street during festivities connected with the dedication of the Henry Clay Bridge. Note the banners. This became the third bridge across the Chattahoochee River at Fort Gaines. It replaced a much older covered bridge. The bridge connected Clay County, Georgia, with Henry County, Alabama. The contract for the bridge was awarded to the firm of Mallory and Nash out of Macon, Ga. The bridge was of steel and was the cantilever type. The Henry Clay Bridge has since been replaced by an even more modern bridge, one wide enough for four lanes of traffic.
