The first tractor to be owned in Clay County belonged to Warren Sutton. Original Caption It is shown on Hancock Street in front of what is now the Mobley Hardware Company. The tractor had pulled six wagons, each loaded with three bales of cotton from Sutton's Gin, located at Suttons Corner, into Fort Gaines. The final destination was Farmer's Warehouse operated by a Mr. Killingsworth. This was an International tractor, Series 10-20. It had two cylinders and used both gasoline and diesel fuel. The large lugs on the wheels were used when plowing but had to be removed before the tractor could travel on the highway. From the tractor wheel, left to right: Warren Sutton, Herbert R. Ingram (small boy), Emmett Killingsworth, Jack Simpson, ?, Greene Burton. In 1915 the boll weevil appeared appeared in Clay County, and cotton production never regained its earlier height.
