I discovered the grave in the year 2006. That should be added to the information currently on GenWeb with the September date. Thank you. I am continuing the research into this family. Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hail (Hale, Hales) Frances <1835> 1888 Additional Comments: I received an email from Robert Hale (sonsofdixie@bellsouth.net) who stated that his cousin, Barbara, believes that Hampton (husband of Frances) is buried near Frances. There is a lot of kudzu behind the grave of Frances. Thus far, we have not discovered any additional graves. Robert Hale goes on to say and list "from the 1870 Census of Clayton County Georgia, page 15 that Hampton and Frances were listed in the household with John and Mary Hale. John Hale was listed as a farmer, but he was a merchant and owned a store in Sandy Ridge, Henry County. Only recently Francis Marion Hale's house was demolished to make way for a new school. I have no idea if Hamp (Hampton Hail) had any children and know from the 1880 census that he was a blacksmith." Robert Hale then lists the following: 1870 Census of Clayton County Georgia, page 15 John Hale age 69 farmer with $600.00 value of real estate and $200.00 personal value Mary age 49 James R. age 18 John N. age 13 Mahala L. C. age 12 Martha L. S. age 9 Ellen Aley age 8 Hamilton age 40 miloto born in South Carolina Frances age 35 miloto born in North Carolina Note: The 1880 US Census from the Family History Library Film 1254140, NA Film Number T9-0140, Page Number 528B, shows that Hampton Hail was born in South Carolina and Francis Hail was born in Virginia. (Submitted by Maxine A. Yancy) Robert Hale writes: "Hampton and Frances Hale were slaves of Frances Marion Hale of Henry County. They stayed after the war and lived with John Hale, father of Frances Marion Hale who was killed in the war. John Hale is my gg grandfather." Robert Hale concludes with: "I am the gg grandson of John Hale and his wife Mary McLendon. John and Mary disappeared after the above census and we have no clue where they went, where or when they died or where they are buried." Additional research on these families will continue.
